Employee giving back
Sallie Mae’s commitment to giving back reaches beyond the work of The Sallie Mae Fund. Our company and employees give generously of their time and resources every year.
Since 2000, The Sallie Mae Fund 10K run has raised more than $1.3 million to help Washington, D.C.-area students attend college.
In 2005, when Hurricane Katrina struck, Sallie Mae allowed employees to give unused vacation time as cash donations to the American Red Cross and The Sallie Mae Fund matched those contributions for Katrina disaster relief efforts.
Since 2001, Sallie Mae’s employees have led efforts to bring nearly $26 million to non-profit organizations through The Sallie Mae Fund’s Matching Gifts Program.
For nearly 25 years, hundreds of Sallie Mae employees organized and participated in the annual Sallie Mae 10K run to benefit the D.C. College Access Program

Vince Papale and Mark Wohlberg on the set of Invincible
“For eight years, I have been a part of the The Sallie Mae Fund’s efforts to help kids across the country achieve their dreams. It’s great to want to be a sports star or a Hollywood celebrity, but it's important to dream for college, too. College has allowed me to provide for my family and live a good life. Playing for the Philadelphia Eagles was a dream come true, but so was being the first in my family to go to college. I see a little bit of Vince Papale in all of these kids. They all have dreams of attending college, and I’m here to tell them through hard work and dedication that dream is possible.”
