Bar Study Loan with Nellie Mae

The LAWLOANS Bar Study Loan (BSL) helps finance bar exam costs, such as bar review course fees, bar exam deposits, and fees, as well as living expenses.

  • Eligibility for international students with a cosigner.
  • Cosigner release after the first 24 payments of principal and interest are made on time. Student borrowers must meet applicable credit requirements at that time (not applicable for foreign borrowers).
  • $15,000 loan limit.

Eligible applicants

  • Can apply for the BSL if enrolled at least half time in their final year of study at an ABA-accredited law school or have graduated from one within the last 12 months.
  • Must be sitting for the bar exam no later than 12 months after graduation.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen permanent resident without conditions and with proper evidence of eligibility, or an international student borrowing with a cosigner who is a creditworthy U.S. citizen or non-citizen permanent resident. (Depending on the school you attend, you may be required to apply for the BSL with a cosigner.)
