Brian Bumgarner joined Sallie Mae in 2001 as a financial analyst. He is manager of finance and marketing development for Campus Solutions. In addition to conducting market analyses, developing operating budgets, forecasts and pricing models, Brian works with our consultants to develop custom solutions and proposals for our school partners. Before joining Sallie Mae, Brian served as a senior financial analyst with the Mitre Corporation in McLean, Virginia.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Kentucky University. Brian lives in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Betsy Burton-Strunk joined Sallie Mae in 1989. She is senior vice president of Campus Solutions, serving schools in the south and mid-Atlantic regions. During her tenure with Sallie Mae, Betsy has served as senior vice president and director for Academic Management Services, national sales director for EFG Technologies, and regional marketing director for EduServ Technologies. She was also a management trainee, customer support manager, and regional sales manager for Wachovia Student Financial Services.
Betsy holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She is a member of NACUBO and SACUBO. Betsy resides in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Elizabeth Butler joined Sallie Mae in 2003 as office manager for Student Loan Funding and is currently administrative assistant for the Campus Solutions team. Previously, Elizabeth served as an executive assistant at Arthur Anderson, Cincinnati, and with the office of the controller at Bank One, Columbus. She lives in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Jim Eickhoff joined Sallie Mae in 1998. He is president of Sallie Mae Campus Solutions. During his tenure at Sallie Mae, Jim has served as president of Student Loan Funding and Sallie Mae Ohio and as executive vice president of Sallie Mae subsidiary General Revenue Corporation.
Jim serves on the Ohio Board of Regents Financial Aid Committee, the Queen City Foundation board, and volunteers in the Hamilton County Criminal Justice System Ministry Program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and education, with a minor in political science, from Hope College (Holland, Michigan). Jim resides in Cincinnati.
Deborah Fahle joined Sallie Mae in 2003 as a regional vice president for Education One Group/Bank One. She is senior vice president for Campus Solutions, serving schools in the southwestern United States. Before joining Sallie Mae, Deborah served as assistant vice president of strategic partnerships and business development, assistant manager of policy and regulatory affairs, supervisor of communications and compliance, compliance specialist, and policy specialist at Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from East Texas State University and a Master of Public Administration degree through the Texas Tech Center for Public Service program. Deborah lives in Austin.
Barbara Hoblitzell joined Sallie Mae in 2006. She is senior vice president of Campus Solutions, serving schools in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and Hawaii. Before joining Sallie Mae, Barbara spent 13 years at the University of California, including five as a senior administrator on the Berkeley campus and eight as a senior administrator at the Office of the President. Her experience also includes eight years with AT&T, comprising executive positions in consumer marketing, operations planning and AT&T’s international division.
Barbara’s recent publications include “The Effectiveness of the Transfer Path for Educationally Disadvantaged Students: California as a Case Study in the Development of a Dual Admissions Program” (in P. Gandara, C. Horn, and G. Orfield [eds.], Leveraging Promise: Expanding Opportunity in Higher Education (Harvard University Civil Rights Project, SUNY Press, September 2006) and Hope Works: Student Use of Education Tax Credits (Lumina Foundation for Education, New Agenda Series 4:2, November 2001). Barbara sits on the California Postsecondary Educations Commission’s (CPEC) Panel on Higher Education Affordability and is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the Association of Institutional Researchers (AIR). She lives in Oakland, California.
Julie Mitchell-Barney joined Sallie Mae in 1990. Before joining Sallie Mae, Julie spent 10 years in consumer product sales for companies such as K-tel International and Hartz Mountain Corporation. During her 15 years with Sallie Mae, Julie has served in many capacities from regional vice president of sales to vice president of sales of General Revenue Corporation where she managed the education sales team.
Julie is senior vice president of Campus Solutions serving schools throughout the Central Region. Julie serves on the Alumni Association board at Stephens College and the Illinois Student Loan Association. She is a past board member for the Minnesota Collection Network. Julie is an active member of COHEAO and NACUBO. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Stephens Colleges and resides in West Chester, Ohio.
Mary Jarett Whisler joined Sallie Mae in 1999. She is senior vice president of Campus Solutions, serving schools in the southeastern United States. Before joining Sallie Mae, Mary served as senior account manager for AMS, territory manager for MicroFridge, Inc., and marketing representative for XTEC Office Systems. She also served as account administrator for SEI Corporation, a securities trader for Capital Analysts, and a customer service representative and retirement plan specialist for the Vanguard Group.
Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Villanova University. She is a member of NASFAA, SASFAA, FASFAA, and SACUBO. Mary lives in North Palm Beach, Florida.
