Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

The Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant is available to students whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as a result of military service performed after September 11, 2001 in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The maximum grant award for the 2016-2017 award year is $5,815, but it cannot exceed your cost of attendance for that year.2

Other eligibility requirements2

  • Not eligible for a Federal Pell Grant on the basis of your Expected Family Contribution but meet the remaining Federal Pell Grant eligibility requirements
  • Under the age of 24 OR enrolled at least part-time in college at the time of the parent’s or guardian’s death.


Completing and submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is necessary to be eligible for ALL forms of federal financial aid, including grants, work-study, and federal student loans.
