Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

The Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant is available to students whose parent or guardian died as a result of military service after September 11, 2001 in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The maximum grant award for the 2013–2014 award year is $5,645, but it cannot exceed your cost of tuition for that year.

Eligibility requirements

Basic requirements for the IASG:

  • Not eligible for a Federal Pell Grant
  • Age 24 or under, OR
  • Has been enrolled at least part-time in college at the time of the parent’s or guardian’s death.


Completing and submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is necessary to be eligible for ALL forms of federal financial aid, including grants, work-study, and federal student loans.
