What are Hispanic Scholarships
Students with Latinx and Hispanic-American heritage can apply for scholarships targeted to their communities. Many organizations offer scholarships geared towards underrepresented communities such as the National Hispanic Business Women Association, which is only offered to women who identify as Hispanic and live in California. There are even Hispanic scholarships for graduate students, such as the NBCC Minority Fellowship Program for Mental Health Counselors which is only offered to minority students studying for their Master's degree in counseling.
Hispanic Scholarships may cover some or all of the education costs a student may incur for the year. Some may even cover multiple years depending on the total cost of attendance.
Where to look for Hispanic scholarships
Start with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. It's a source of scholarships for Latinx students and supports Hispanic-American higher education. There are scholarships available for graduating high school students as well as two-year or four-year college students.
In efforts to promote and support diversity, many funds and organizations like the Hispanic Scholarship Fund offer resources and scholarships to minority students who are underrepresented in the community and on many college campuses.
Additionally, other scholarship opportunities exist for Latinx and Hispanic-Americans such as the McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship, National Hispanic Business Women Association Educational Scholarship, and CINTAS Foundation Brandon Fradd Fellowship in Music Composition. When searching for scholarships be sure to look for both general and niche scholarships to help pay for college.
