Who may enter

The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway^TM is open only to persons whose student loans are currently being serviced by Sallie Mae, Inc. ("Sallie Mae"), excluding co-signers, co-makers, and endorsers or borrowers whose Sallie Mae-serviced loans are all owned by the U.S. government.

The prize

Sallie Mae will pay off your Sallie Mae-serviced student loans up to $25,000.00.

How to enter

You may register for The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway by creating a Manage Your Loans^SM account on SallieMae.com. Once you've created your Manage Your Loans account, or if you already have a Manage Your Loans account, you will then need to log into Manage Your Loans (SallieMae.com) and open the My Contact Information page by clicking on the link located near the top of the Manage Your Loans, Account Summary page. At the bottom of the Edit Your Contact Information page you can enter the sweepstakes by clicking on the radio button indicating your desire to enter the Great Sallie Mae Giveaway. While creating your Manage Your Loans account you will be asked the following question:

I. whether you agree to receive correspondence related to your student loans as well as notices concerning our privacy and information policies via email from Sallie Mae or its partners and affiliates.

If you agree to this condition, you will have one entry in the Sweepstakes. In addition, beginning as soon as is commercially feasible on November 1, 2009, if you are enrolled in the Manage Your Loans (SallieMae.com) online billing student loan payment service, you will receive an additional two entries each month in the Sweepstakes. You will receive two additional entries if you are enrolled in Sallie Mae's automatic debit student loan repayment service.

You must enroll in either the online billing, or the automatic debit student loan repayment service, to receive the additional sweepstakes entries, but you may not receive additional entries by enrolling in both at the same time. If you are enrolled in both the online billing and the automatic debit repayment services, you will only receive additional sweepstakes entries for enrollment in one of those services. You'll get one additional Sweepstakes entry each month by making at least one online payment using Sallie Mae's Manage Your Loans "Pay Now" feature. You'll be credited for the additional Sweepstakes entry once Sallie Mae has successfully received your payment and applied it to your account. If you try to make an online payment, and Sallie Mae is unable to credit the funds to your account (due to insufficient funds), then you will not receive any Sweepstakes entries for that month. If an online payment is made by a co-signer, co-maker, or endorser the additional Sweepstakes entry will be applied to the primary borrower's account and not specifically to the loan on which the payment was made.

You must enroll in either the online billing, or the automatic debit student loan repayment service, to receive the additional sweepstakes entries, but you may not receive additional entries by enrolling in both at the same time. If you are enrolled in both the online billing and the automatic debit repayment services, you will only receive additional sweepstakes entries for enrollment in one of those services. You'll get one additional Sweepstakes entry each month by making at least one online payment using Sallie Mae's Manage Your Loans "Pay Now" feature. You'll be credited for the additional Sweepstakes entry once Sallie Mae has successfully received your payment and applied it to your account. If you try to make an online payment, and Sallie Mae is unable to credit the funds to your account (due to insufficient funds), then you will not receive any Sweepstakes entries for that month.

Mail a 4" x 6" card with the following information:

• Your full name
• Your complete address
• Valid email address
• Valid telephone number
• Your Sallie Mae Account Number
• The words "The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway entry"

Write the words "Manage Your Loans – online billing payment" on your entry to get three additional entries (for one monthly Sweepstakes drawing) or instead, write the words "automatic debit payment", for an additional two entries (for one monthly Sweepstakes drawing).

You must enter no later than one day prior to the monthly drawing to be eligible to win the monthly prize. Maximum four entries per drawing, regardless of the method of entry. If you do not win a prize, your entry or entries (excluding online billing, automatic debit, and "Pay Now" entries) remain eligible for future drawings. The earlier you enter, the greater your chance of winning. Customers that were entered in The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway that ended October 31, 2009 are automatically entered in this Sweepstakes.

Terms and conditions

1. By submitting an entry, you fully and unconditionally agree to and accept these Official Rules. The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway ("Sweepstakes") is sponsored by Sallie Mae, Inc., 12061 Bluemont Way, Reston, Virginia, 20190 ("Sponsor"). "You" means the person who submits an entry.


2. Sweepstakes is void where prohibited. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Subject to any governmental approval that may be required, Sponsor reserves the right to, without prior notice and at any time, terminate the Sweepstakes, in whole or in part, or modify Sweepstakes in any way, should any factor interfere with its proper conduct as contemplated by these Official Rules. Sweepstakes will begin on November 1, 2009 and will end on December 31, 2009. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion, to cancel the sweepstakes in its entirety, or only the online portion, if it becomes technically corrupted or because of non-authorized human intervention.


3. Eligibility. Sweepstakes is open to all persons who are borrowers (excluding co-signers, co-makers, and endorsers or borrowers whose Sallie Mae-serviced loans are all owned by the U.S. government), as of November 1, 2009, of one or more student loans serviced by Sallie Mae, excluding persons whose accounts are sixty (60) or more days past due as of the date of the drawing. Borrowers who are under the age of majority in their state of residence are ineligible to participate. Borrowers who are employees, officers or directors of Sallie Mae, their parent companies, affiliates and subsidiaries, and the borrowers' children, parents, spouses, and members of their household are ineligible to participate. In order to be eligible to win, Sallie Mae must have a valid email address on file on the date of the drawing. If you change your email address after you register, go to www.salliemae.com to update your registration. No purchase or online entry necessary. Sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the United States.


4. Effective date of entries. Entries made online will be effective on the day received. Entries submitted by mail will be effective on the date Sponsor receives the entry. All entries become the exclusive property of Sallie Mae, Inc. and will not be acknowledged or returned. You are responsible for your costs of entering, including online access charges, long distance telephone charges, and postage.


5. Selection of winners. Winners will be determined by random drawing from all eligible entries received and processed at least one day before the monthly drawing. Drawings will be held on the last day of each month, or as soon as is commercially reasonable, beginning November 1, 2009 and ending December 31, 2009. Winners will not be eligible to win any other Sallie Mae prizes awarded under Sweepstakes. Winners must agree to the use of their names, voices, and likenesses for the purpose of advertising, trade or promotion without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.


6. Notification of winners. Sweepstakes winners will be notified by email within one week after each drawing. All decisions are final and binding. If email notification bounces back to the Sponsor as invalid, two attempts to contact the winner will be made via email over a one-week period. If the notice is returned as invalid a third time, the winner will be disqualified and a new winner selected. Winners must contact Sponsor in accordance with instructions on the notice and execute an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability Release and, where legal, a Publicity Release within 10 days after the date the notice is sent in order to claim their prize. Failure to complete these steps within that 10-day period will result in disqualification of the selected winner and a new winner will be selected from eligible entries in a commercially reasonable period. No exceptions will be made to this rule. Sponsor is not responsible for and will not be liable for late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify winners. A list of prizewinners will be posted at www.salliemae.com/greatgiveaway/winner.html.


7. Odds of winning. The odds of winning any drawing will be determined by the number of eligible entries received.


8. In the event of a dispute regarding who submitted an entry, the entry will be deemed submitted by the account number entered in the online registration form or the borrower named in the offline registration form.

IMPORTANT: Any person attempting to forge entry or to defraud Sallie Mae in any way in connection with this Sweepstakes will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Any attempt by a participant or any other individual to deliberately damage any Web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Sweepstakes may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to prosecute any such individual to the fullest extent of the law.

9. Prizes. One prize will be awarded as a result of each of the monthly drawings. The prize will be a credit to the winner's Sallie Mae-serviced student loan account at Sallie Mae ("Loan Account") as of the date of the drawing. If the outstanding balance of the winner's Loan Account on the date of the drawing is less than or equal to $25,000, the maximum credit is the outstanding balance of the account on the date of the drawing. If the outstanding balance of the winner's Loan Account on the date of the drawing is greater than $25,000, the maximum credit is $25,000. In the event that the outstanding balance of the winner's Loan Account on the date of the drawing is greater than $25,000, the $25,000 credit will be applied in the order of (1) late fees; (2) administrative fees; (3) interest; and then (4) principal. No interest will be paid to the winner for the time between the date of the drawing and the posting of the prize. A refund may be made for reductions in the account balance due to payments and other credits made after the date of the drawing and before the posting of the credit. Winner is responsible for all taxes. Prizes are not transferable. The total value of all prizes will depend on the outstanding balances of the loans paid off.


10. Other conditions. Sponsor, its agents and representatives, its parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and legal advisors are not responsible for and will not be liable for; (I) late, lost, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, unintelligible or postage due entries; (II) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet or computer malfunctions, failures or difficulties of any kind; (III) failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions; (IV) any condition caused by events beyond the control of Sponsor that may cause Sweepstakes to be disrupted or corrupted; (V) any injuries losses or damages of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of the Sweepstakes, acceptance, possession or use of the name "The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway", or from participation in the Sweepstakes; or (VI) any printing or typographical error in any material associated with the Sweepstakes.


11. Indemnification. You agree to release and hold Sponsor, its employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives, parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with the Sweepstakes or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of the name "The Great Sallie Mae Giveaway", including without limitation, personal injury, death and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy.


12. Resolution of disputes. Except where prohibited by law, as a condition of participating in this Sweepstakes you agree that (1) any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Sweepstakes or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by final and binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association and held at the AAA regional office nearest Reston, Virginia; (2) the Federal Arbitration Act will govern the interpretation, enforcement and all proceedings at such arbitration; and (3) judgment upon such arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction. Under no circumstances will you be permitted to obtain awards for, and you hereby waive all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys' fees, other than your actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e., costs associated with entering the Sweepstakes), and you further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.


13. Choice of law. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of you and Sponsor in connection with the Sweepstakes, will be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the substantive laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia without regard to Virginia choice of law rules.
