Advocacy and responsibility
We stand behind our customers
Whether a school, a student, a government agency, or a guarantor, we stand behind our customers and ensure that they receive the resources, respect, and attention they deserve.
Advocacy
As the world of higher education funding evolves, Sallie Mae will continue to advocate for practices and policies that are in the best interest of our customers. The expertise we’ve developed through day-to-day contact with our customers allows us to inform Congress, media and our business partners about the policies that will best serve current and future students. Fair policies and flexible industry standards, coupled with a healthy and equitable business environment will allow us to continue fulfilling our original mission.
Privacy and security
In an age where issues surrounding personal information and privacy surface daily, Sallie Mae remains committed to providing our customers with state-of-the-art technology and rigorous privacy policies to guarantee the protection of their personal information.
Voices
“Unfortunately, sometimes Sallie Mae’s borrowers find themselves unable to work due to disabilities. Borrowers who become permanently disabled are eligible to have their federal student loans discharged, but the federal process can be confusing, frustrating and take years to complete.
In an effort to make the process simpler, Sallie Mae conducted focus groups and studied the history of denied claims to find ways to make the disability discharge process easier. We also developed a Web site to help guide students through the process. As a result, we’ve seen a 37 percent decline in significant problems. It’s just one example of how Sallie Mae goes above and beyond to advocate for our customers.”
