Sallie Mae has helped USA Funds reduce its defaulted loan portfolio by 28% in the last four years. Today, USA Funds' default rate is at its lowest point ever. The enhanced collection services performed by Sallie Mae have generated additional resources that USA Funds has used to invest in mission-related activities.

Over the last four years, Sallie Mae has consistently earned No. 1 or No. 2 performance rankings on one of its federal agency collection contracts; it has had four first-place rankings since October 2001 on a second federal agency collection contract.

Sallie Mae recently was selected from 20 bidding vendors to collect defaulted personal income tax for the state of Ohio.

Through the competitive bid process that involved Sallie Mae, the U.S. Department of Education was able to save $1 billion in costs on its contract to outsource loan servicing for the Direct Loan Program, student loan consolidation processing, and collection administration.
