Stafford loans

Federal Stafford loans are fixed-rate loans made to undergraduate and graduate students who are attending colleges and universities at least half time.

Federal Stafford loans are the most common source of education loan funds.

Graduate PLUS loan

FAQs for schools about this program

With a Federal Graduate PLUS loan, your students may borrow up to the full cost of their education, including tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, and living allowance — less other financial aid received including Federal Stafford loans.

The Graduate PLUS loan is an affordable, accessible way for your students to cover the entire cost of their graduate school education. They can get a Graduate PLUS even if they have no credit history.

Graduate students are strongly encouraged to apply for both subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Stafford loans before applying for a Graduate PLUS.
