Service of Process


Sallie Mae Bank (“Sallie Mae”) requires that service of process comply with applicable law. As a general rule, Sallie Mae does not accept service of process by any means not permitted by applicable law, including email and facsimile. If service by mail is permitted by applicable law, please mail your subpoena to:

For any subpoena issued from a state court in a state where Sallie Mae does not have an office or place of business, please ensure the foreign subpoena is issued and served in accordance with any applicable interstate agreements that permit the domestication of a foreign state subpoena.

Please do not send subpoenas to any fax number, Post Office box, email address, or other mail address, even if Sallie Mae previously requested that subpoenas be sent to such number or address.

Response Time

Sallie Mae exercises reasonable efforts to respond in a timely manner to subpoenas that are issued and served in compliance with applicable law, but such responses can take approximately 30 days from date of receipt to process. Please ensure your subpoena only requests those records necessary for your legal matter and identifies the account holder and account number or account holder social security number. We reserve the right to charge reasonable copying costs and administrative fees prior to the production of documents in response to any subpoena.

Customer Privacy

We are committed to protecting the privacy of our customers. Our Privacy Policy, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (15 U.S.C. § 6801 et seq.), the Right to Financial Privacy Act of 1978 (“RFPA”) (12 U.S.C. § 3401 et seq.), and other relevant state and federal privacy laws, are designed to ensure the security and confidentiality of customer information, protect customers against any anticipated threats or hazards to the security or integrity of personally identifiable information, and protect against unauthorized access to or use of that information which could result in substantial harm or inconvenience to our customers.

Law Enforcement

Sallie Mae generally will accept service of valid subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, and criminal grand jury or other valid law enforcement directives for the production of documents by mail from government entities at the address identified above. Please ensure all federal government requests comply with any applicable provisions of the RFPA.
