America's Military Servicemembers Can Count on ED and Its Student Loan Servicers

America's servicemembers have always been there for us when we’ve needed them. That's why the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and its student loan servicers are doing everything they can to go the extra mile for our men and women in uniform.

To help members of our military understand the benefits that are available to them under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), and other programs, a new brochure, For Members of the U.S. Armed Forces: What You Need to Know About Your Federal Student Loan Benefits, is now available.

Developed collaboratively by ED and leading organizations that service federal student loans, it provides information on:

  • The SCRA interest rate cap
  • Military service deferment
  • Deferments after active duty
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness
  • The HEROES Act waiver
  • Income-Based Repayment
  • And more

In addition, the brochure offers helpful tips and advice for service members on active duty or during deployment, as well as links to the Veterans Disability Discharge Program, Federal Student Aid, the Department of Defense (DOD) Student Loan Repayment Program, and SCRA.

Please read the brochure and share it with your students and graduates.

COMING SOON: A brand-new section on, designed specifically to address the unique needs of student loan borrowers who serve in the armed forces.
