Make payments while you're away

We understand that making payments while you’re in military service may fall to someone else. We want to make it easy for whoever makes the payment.

Automatic debit

It's the easiest way to have your payments made on time. Log in to your account to enroll.

One-time payments

You can make or schedule one-time payments online or through our automated phone system at 800-472-5543.

Pay by mail

You can make payments by mailing in a check or money order. Allow at least 7–10 days before your payment is due for your account to be credited in time.

Mail your student loan payment.

Establish a power of attorney

A power of attorney is a written document that gives a person the authority to act on another's behalf for any legal or financial issues for a specified time. Designating your spouse, parent, or trusted friend in a power of attorney allows them to address whatever needs to be done on your behalf while you're away. You can tailor your powers of attorney for any situation.

If you’re married and both you and your spouse are in the military, each of you may want to establish a power of attorney prior to deployment. Help is available at most installation legal assistance offices.

If you establish a power of attorney, please send us a copy for our files. Make sure your authorized contact has your Social Security number, account information, and date of birth so they can act on your behalf.

For more information about establishing a power of attorney, visit Military OneSource.

Protect your credit with an active duty alert

To help you maintain your good credit, you may want to place an active duty alert on your credit report to reduce the risk of identity theft. An active duty alert requires businesses to take extra steps before granting credit in your name.

Note: Active duty alerts last for one year and can be renewed to match the period of deployment.

If you have questions about your credit, visit www.usa.gov/credit-reports. You can also order your credit report online from AnnualCreditReport.com, call 877-322-8228

, or write to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta GA 30348-5281.
