John (Jack) F. Remondi is president and CEO of Sallie Mae, the nation's No.1 financial services company specializing in education. He is also a member of the Sallie Mae and Sallie Mae Bank boards.
Before his appointment as CEO in May 2013, Mr. Remondi served as president and COO, and led the restructuring of the company’s businesses following the end of the private sector federal education loan program. From 2008 through 2011, he served as vice chairman and chief financial officer, helping the company successfully navigate the financial challenges posed by the economic crisis.
Mr. Remondi first joined Sallie Mae in 1999 upon the company’s acquisition of Nellie Mae. As Sallie Mae’s executive vice president of finance from 2001 to 2005, he was a key player in the company’s transformation from a government-sponsored entity to a fully private, retail-focused organization.
Before re-joining Sallie Mae, he was a portfolio manager of PAR Capital Management, a Boston-based private investment management firm from 2005 to 2008. Previously, Mr. Remondi served as chief financial officer and senior vice president of corporate finance and administration for Nellie Mae and was employed by BayBank in the financial division.
Mr. Remondi received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Connecticut College. He is chairman of the Board of Directors of Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.
